Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 22

Leviticus 4:31 And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour unto the Lord; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.

The priest takes upon him the sins of others, an atonement. Jesus Christ is the GREAT High Priest which teaches us again that He is the Priest to take upon Him all sins of every creature. Ask Brandon Wernli about this.

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the new testament, the new covenant.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Why was the vinegar the last thing needed before he said that it was finished? Is it what he would use to die upon? Was it needed to fill prophecy? Did the drinking of the vinegar happen to occur at just the time when he had completed the full length of time needed to complete all suffering for the sins of the world? Maybe it is none of the above and they just happened to occur near to each other.

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 21

Moses 5:7 And then the angel spake, saying: This thing is a similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father, which is full of grace and truth.

All things point to our Savior and His role in the plan of Salvation. With eyes to see we can celebrate this far more in our lives.

Moses 6:54 Hence came the saying abroad among the people, that the Son of God hath atoned for original guilt, wherein the sins of the parents cannot be answered upon the heads of the children, for they are whole from the foundation of the world.

It's always impressive to me how often we learn that there is no need to baptize little children, infants, because Jesus' atonement already provides for them. there is no 'original guilt'. I think this word is more fitting and correct than original sin. Which I suppose there was an original sin in partaking of the fruit. Although we call it a transgression.

A of F 1:3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

I am reminded as I read/write this verse that there is no "Atonement" without Christ. It is His, it is Him. Any reference to the Atonement must be referenced with the Savior.

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 20

D&C 74:7 But little children are holy, being sanctified through the atonement of Jesus Christ; and this is what the scriptures mean.

Little children receive the blessings of Jesus Atonement even without the same covenant/repentance requirements that those older than the age of accountability must abide by.

D&C 76:69 These are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood.

The new covenant - This is the opportunity for us to covenant to follow and obey Him, to repent of our sins, and receive His forgiveness. He mediates for us.

D&C 138:2 And reflecting upon the great atoning sacrifice that was made by the Son of God, for the redemption of the world;

What revelations could I receive if I did more to reflect, ponder, and contemplate the Holy Atonement of Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 19

 D&C 29:1 Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I am, whose arm of mercy hath atoned for your sins;

He reminds us who He is. And we need to always remember...

D&C 38:4 I am the same which have taken the Zion of Enoch into mine own bosom; and verily, I say, even as many as have believed in my name, for I am Christ, and in mine own name, by the virtue of the blood which I have split, have I pleaded before the Father for them.

It occurs to me that the Lord speaks of Himself differently than he did in previous dispensations. He has reach a completeness, a wholeness, a similitude with God His Father, that He must represent before man to help them understand who He is and how important it is that we rely on Him.

D&C 45:4 Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified;

He, Jesus Christ, never sinned, yet He suffered as if He had committed every sin ever committed. Fairness? (E. Renlund 4/2021)

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 18

Moroni 8:20 And he that saith that little children need baptism denieth the mercies of Christ, and setteth at naught the atonement of him and the power of his redemption.

Whenever we talk about the need for the atonement in order to be freed from our sins, there has to be a clause that excuses children, they can not be accused of sinning when they could not be held accountable for something they are not yet capable of understanding.

Moroni 10:33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

We are perfected in Christ because the blood of His sacrifice satisfies the laws of justice.

D&C 18:11 For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him.

I like the verse in Alma that clarifies that it is not just men, but men, women, and children who benefit from the atonement.

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 17

Alma 42:23 But God ceaseth not to be God, and mercy claimeth the penitent, and mercy cometh because of the atonement; and the atonement bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead; and the resurrection of the dead bringeth back men into the presence of God; and thus they are restored into his presence, to be judged according to their works, according to the law and justice.

The value of the resurrection, to be brought back to the presence of God to be judged.

Helaman 5:9 O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world.

In speaking of the atonement of Christ and the resurrection, these verses are so clear and complete.

3 Nephi 11:14 Arise and come for the unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.

And here is the proof to this people that Jesus really did do all those things that were prophesied about Him. I sense that it will yet be the opportunity of all of us in our own time to come to know conclusively that Jesus is the Christ, that He suffered, bled, and died to redeem each of us. And the proof will be in having the opportunity to feel the prints of the nails in His hands, in His feet, and the wound in His side -- almost as if it were a sacred ordinance. Maybe it is. I look forward to that day and hope to have it sooner than later.

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 16

Mosiah 14:10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief; when though shalt make his soul an offering for sin he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

I don't love the phrase that it pleased the Lord to bruise him, mostly because I am sure that I do not understand it. I don't believe that God was pleased to see His Only Begotten Son in the Flesh 'bruised'. I understand this to mean that it was part of the greater Plan of Salvation and that it had to be. In the sense that God's plan would be brought about for all of His children, He was pleased with this.

Alma 7:11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

Our Lord suffered it all so He could succor us, and more importantly so He could redeem us (by any means).

Alma 34:8 And now, behold, I will testify unto you of myself that these things are true. Behold, I say unto you, that I do know that Christ shall come among the children of men, to take upon him the transgressions of his people, and that he shall atone for the sins of the world; for the Lord God hath spoken it.

It cannot be written any clearer than that.

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 4

John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

I believe this is a reference to Moses and the children of Israel receiving mana from heaven while in the wilderness. Life does feel like the wilderness sometimes and we need the Savior to help bring us home.

John 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

How does He know the Father so well? How do we come to know Him and His Father to that depth?

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.

Here we are asked to believe in Him, not even to know Him as well as He knows the Father. How do we strengthen faith and belief?

Jesus Christ --> Atonement Through - Day 3

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Shed for many, not for all? Is that because some will choose not to receive the gift? But wasn't it offered unto all? I feel a little confused by the wording.

Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

The sacrament is the symbol of His atonement, death, and resurrection. We should always remember it.

Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus suffered the pain, guilt, any kind of suffering that we might go through being mortal and making mortal kinds of choices. This was His atonement, to pay for our sufferings and sins so we could be made spiritually and physically whole, clean, relieved, ready to return to Father.
