Matthew 27:22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him Let him be crucified.
Who is this person Pilate, a Roman I assume. Why were the people so willing to crucify Christ? Was it because of the pharisees or was it because he was not serving the purpose they thought they most wanted - freedom from Roman oppression?
Luke 23:23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
This verse was listed in parenthesis after the Matthew verse, yet they are different enough that I feel like they should stand on their own. From this verse it feels even more like it was all chief priest driven. I can't help but wonder if the pharisees reached the other side of the veil and thought "I have made a horrible mistake"?
