Matthew 26:45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Mark 14:41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
I picture Him saying this to them already asleep with no one really hearing but someone heard and repeated it. They must have come awake enough to hear the instructions and go back to sleep. Also, if these reports came from Matthew and Mark, did they see it/hear it separately from a distance? Did they see it in vision later? Did Peter James or John repeat it back to them? Regardless, Jesus knew that the time for the betrayal to be complete was then, that there was no more of the atonement that could or needed to be done outside of the public eye.
Matthew 27:4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
After the betrayal who could provide peace to a deeply disturbed soul? Certainly no one earthly and then could you be humble enough to bring yourself to the One Man who could give peace? It doesn't seem likely when it is the same person you just betrayed.
