John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
The power to lay down life and take it up again is directly linked with His authority. Maybe it is one in the same.
John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
I wonder if Jesus' words ever came off as boasting or arrogant. Certainly there were plenty that heard Him as blasphemous, but He could not lie either so what He spoke was from God.
John 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
He loves His Father, and He says so. This phrase struck me differently as I read it.
What I have been learning is that there is authority derived or proven in different ways. In these similar verses the authority Jesus had came because of the commandment give to Him by His Father.
