3 Nephi 11:12 And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words the whole multitude fell to the earth; for they remembered that it had been prophesied among them that Christ should show himself unto them after his ascension into heaven.
The knew that in the prophecies Christ would ascend into heaven after his Atonement and resurrection were complete, and here they could see Him and could know that these things were all accomplished.
3 Nephi 18:39 And while they were overshadowed he departed from them, and ascended into heaven. And the disciples saw and did bear record that he ascended again into heaven.
Ascending to heaven is an important piece of information, showing His power. I hadn't ever really even thought about how significant it is that he had power to ascend to heaven.
D&C 20:24 And ascended into heaven, to sit down on the right hand of the Father, to reign with almighty power according to the will of the Father;
Ascension must represent power, and especially when contrasted with the idea that he condescended below all things while here on earth.
