John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
We represent the flesh of Jesus Christ, as sacrificed, with bread. My joy was so full partaking of the sacrament on Sunday, that "Jesus Once of Humble Birth" offered His Atonement that I could be healed from sin and physical ailment.
I've read this verse many times and even in past readings have seen the correlating stories and teachings in the chapter. This verse is shared at the time that he fed the 5000 with a few loaves of bread and a few fishes. This is one of the great lessons of life that it is in being humble and meek that faith and hope grow. Through these attributes one find gratitude and awareness of the miracles of life that surround you. There were some that probably missed the miracle of the 5000 too worried about a dole, and blind to the miracle that occurred. They missed the greater meaning that they had before them the bread of life. As one who believes in Jesus Christ I hope I can always improve in my ability to see the miracles around me as offered by Jesus, and never hunger or thirst...
Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
The hidden manna is a reference to the bread of life that was given to the people of Moses. The people of Moses took for granted the value of the manna. Do we do the same with the sacrament? We must have our hearts pointed towards the Son of God.
Alma 5:34 (Deut. 8:3; John 6:51; 1 Cor. 11:27; 2 Nephi 23:3; Jacob 3:2) Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life: yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of life freely.
In the vision of the tree of life the tree of life is also likened to a fountain of water. The fruit of the tree, the fountain of water, and bread are all used to point our hearts and minds to the Savior Jesus Christ, or the love of God which sheddeth itself abroad in the hearts of the children of men.
