Nephi in later chapters will explain again how Satan captures first with Flaxen cords. They are soft and can't be felt at first our at least they feel insignificant. But before we know it we are bound down with strong cords. Over time those strong cords turn to chains. When the Savior invites us to place our burdens upon Him, our to take his time upon us, this is his offer to help us break free of Satan's chains.
This process of Satan's is explained another way, he lulls us away with carnal security. He slowly and carefully tricks us away from what is right to what is evil and addictive.
