Nephi just finished explaining the vision of the tree of life to his brothers, and then he mentions that they married the daughters of Ishmael and then he reports that they had completed the commandments that God had given them. At this point it was time for them to move on and they received the Liahona to help them in their next commandment -- travel on.
How blessed we are to receive commandments to travel into the wilderness, into challenges and trials. It is in these challenges, trials, treks, journeys that we are proven to see if we will do all things with the Father asks of us. We become refined by learning hard lessons and in the end we trust God and learn to follow his promptings, and most of all to be obedient and love Him and serve Him.
