1 Nephi 13:14-15 "land of promise" "scattered" "beautiful"

In seeing the future of his seed, Nephi learns of the role of the gentiles who will come and inherit this land. Many of the cross-references touch on how this is a prophecy given to the fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel) as well as reiterated by Mormon at the end of the Book of Mormon.  As the children of Israel, they were given a promised land.  The promised land comes with blessings and curses directly tied to their pride and humility in following the Son of God.  When the pride of the people caused them to forget their covenants to follow Christ, they were scattered -- it's the curse.  When they were humble and followed Christ and loved and served each other they were prospered in the land.  As part of the great blessings they also became 'fair' and 'beautiful' because of their garments being washed in the blood of the Son of God.  When we keep the commandments of God we literally become better looking. Hard to prove but you watch for those people who have lived the commandments and humbly love and serve others, they have a 'countenance'.

This land was dedicated to the worship of God.  It is incumbent upon any who live in the Americas to worship God.  When we do, the blessings will follow.  When we don't the curses will follow and the people mark themselves.  With beards and unkempt hair, tatoos, body piercings, the smell of smoke and alchohol, and in many other ways the unbelievers separate themselves.  They also become idle caring only after the next fix.  How I and we hope that we can always be anxiously engaged in good causes that worship God and then humbly receive of the goodness of God.  That is the peace and comfort we seek.
