Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks of England said, "an aggressive scientific atheism tone deaf to the music of faith" is the culprit for our degrading moral world.
Elder Cook said, "Finally, there are those who are in tune with the music of faith. You know who you are." I hope I am one of them, and I hope to help others to become this including my family.
He says many times the word awake or awaken in terms of our spirituality. Our desire is for these members to awaken fully to faith and increase their activity and commitment. He then states multiple times that this is to be done through scripture study.
Amanda and I have realized that this is true, though we don't always know how to fix it, "What we are speaks so loudly that our children may not hear what we say" He does give us some ideas, "Mothers and fathers praying with children may be more important than any other example"
Here is one of those references to scripture study, " In addition, when we inculcate into our lives scriptural imperatives and live the gospel we are blessed with the Spirit and taste of His goodness with feeings of joy, happiness, and especially peace."
He also quotes Spencer W. Kimball, "I find that when I get casual in my relationships with divinity and when it seems that no divine ear is listening and no divine voice is speaking, that I am far, far away. If I immerse myself in the scriptures the distance narrows and the spirituality returns." Love this quote. It does inspire me to be consistent in my scripture study and to fix it when it wanes.
