Do the Will of the Father - Matthew 7

Chapter 7 is the conclusion of the Master's Sermon on the Mount.  I am so grateful for his words.  One phrase that catches my attention as I read this chapter is from vs 21.  "Not everyone that sayeth unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."  The priesthood is our commitment to do the will of the Father.  There is nothing more important to than this.  Hence the need for prayer, revelation, and the ability to recognize and act upon the promptings of the spirit.

In Secret - Matthew 6

This is the second chapter in Matthew that is the Sermon on the Mount.  The Lord teaches the people that they should give of their alms or offerings in secret.  He wants us to pray in secret.  And he wants us to fast in secret.  We should be discrete about these things and not seek the recognition of the world. Service to others and our worship can all be internal and personal things.  I know this is something I struggle with.  All to often I want recognition for the things that I do, and yet the spirit attends when I do worship in private.  This is seeking the kingdom of Heaven and that is what the Savior teaches the people to seek first the kingdom of God and that all other things that they need will be added unto them.

Beattitudes 1 - Matthew 5

We are blessed if we: poor in spirit, mourn, meek, hunger and thirst after righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, persecuted for righteousness sake, and when men shall revile you, persecute you and say all manner of evil against you for the Saviors sake.

Some of these phrases have real meaning to me, others do not.  The one that stands out at the moment is 'hungering and thirsting after righteousness'.  And also being pure of heart.  I do not feel pure of heart but see it in front of me as something I can reach for with Father's help.  For this reason repentance is so important, and I want to improve at it all the time.  I find there are times in my life when I'm good at recognizing my weaknesses and seeking to improve them and repent of them.  And other times i'm just not.  I wonder if it has followed something like the pride cycle.

I love verse 16, let your light so shine that men will see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.  I wish to be that humble that anything good I could do could be reflected and redirected back to Father so we can all worship and glorify God.

There is so much in the Sermon on the Mount that helps us to understand the differences between the law of Moses and the New Covenant of Jesus.
