Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have.
John 20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
She didn't recognize Jesus. Is this because she wasn't expecting to see Him, or because He looked different.
John 20:20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
In each of these verses there is certainly something of being certain that it really was the resurrected Jesus Christ, and so the need to have scars as identifying markers, and second the opportunity to touch and feel that Jesus has a body of flesh and bones and is not a Spirit. They were easily more certain of His death than His resurrection, because they had never seen it before.
