I would like to go back through Jacob 5 tomorrow and outline what happens, taking note of each phase, and how many phases there are and what happens in each phase. How many different trees are referenced? Are there specific locations mentioned in the vineyard?
The tame olive tree is the House of Israel. It began to get old and decay.
First Approach - Prune it. Dig about it. Nourish it.
Many days pass.
Some new tender branches, but the top began to perish
Second Approach (v. 7) - Master asks servant (a prophet) to go and get branches from a wild olive tree (Gentiles) so they can graft them into the tame olive tree. They remove the main branches of the tame olive tree that are going bad and they burn them (they do not want them to corrupt other trees) (v. 8) Young and tender branches are taken from the tame olive tree and grafted elsewhere. The wild olive tree branches are grafted in where the young and tender branches were. Also, these were the young tender branches that came as a result of digging about the tree and nourishing it. (v. 9) The bad branches from the tame olive tree need to be burned so they do not "cumber" the ground. (v. 11-12) they continue to prune, dig, and nourish the tree. (v. 13 ?)
