Question of the day: Why is it important to keep records of your family? Why should we keep a journal?
I think journals are valuable for family history, I don't think any of us doubt that. But in our day we have so much in the way of technology to help us track all of it at once, that this is where we do most of our day to day work.
Additionally, I tend to think that journals are maybe a little more valuable for tracking the blessings of God. How has he blessed me and my family and others around me. It is also a record of my interactions with my wife and children which relationships mean so very much to me.
I feel like there is a real lack of religious zeal for these descendants of Enos, Jacob, Nephi, and Lehi. In my thinking Nephi went back for the plates for more reasons than just a record of genealogy. But maybe those reasons are not as relevant any more (i.e. preservation of language, remember the commandments, etc)
[D&C Intro] The D&C is for us to know how the church is to be structured and to understand more clearly the commandments. It is also another witness of Jesus Christ. This book alone is worth all the treasure in the world, and yet I prize even more The Book of Mormon.
