Nephi frequently references the works of Moses in an effort to strengthen faith. Here he reminds us of two miracles of the Lord wrought through Moses--the saving serpent, and the rock of water. Both miracles were clear symbols of the Savior. Nephi wants to strengthen our faith that the Lord can save our souls.
