More than one prophet started their greatest lectures/teachings with the creation. Abinadi comes to mind. Moses and Abraham come to mind as well since their books start with those teachings. This all points my mind to the temple and the endowment were we learn first of the creation, the Fall and our need for a Savior.
In truth we really must understand what the creation was and why it was, and how valued 'man' is in the creation of all things. It helps us understand our place in the Heavenly family, and most importantly our relationship to God. It is the essential backdrop for understanding the need for the atonement and the resurrection.
