Adam was told that if he ate of the forbidden fruit he would 'surely die'. Satan told him he wouldn't die but would 'be as the Gods, knowing good and evil'. This verse mentions more than once that man is given time to repent. It reminds us of how dependent we are on God for everything. We are truly subject to death from the moment we are conceived because our first parents did bring upon us death when they ate the fruit. It is by His grace that we experience ant part of life.
