Today I'm learning about the great and abominable church. As I read through different verses of revelation that describe the abominable church I had the thought that it was very much like the secret combinations. Whether it is exactly or not is irrelevant as satan uses both to tempt and yoke man with his chains and lead them to hell.
I was particularly interested in two phrases, slayeth the saints and yoke of iron. In the Oct 2011 conference E. Ballard gave a definition of saints that I think is useful here. He said the saints are those who seek to covenant to follow Christ. And of course these verses of scripture do NOT refer to those considered "saints" by the Catholic church.
To me it seems that the yoke of iron describes those who use the word of god mixed with the philosophies of men to lead people to do wickedly under the guise of being righteous and holy.
