The Spirit of the Lord shows Nephi the tree that his father saw, but before he does he tells him that he will see this tree and then he will see the Son of God.
The tree it a sign to Nephi that he is receiving the same information that his father saw. And that by receiving that sign and the information that will follow it is important that he receive the responsibility as well of being a witness of the Son of God. This is an apostolic call.
Then he sees the tree and from the words he uses it must have been an overwhelming experience to see the beauty of this tree. His words are superlative in nature and show us his efforts to describe something that mortal words are insufficient to describe.
What a joy it would be to have this same experience. If we desire this thing and we ask for it, what keeps us from having a similar experience and witness?
