How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal Life - Elder Scott

This is a tough talk to take notes on as the whole thing is great.  It is truly doctrinally rich.

Elder Scott acknowledges love and support from his wife Jeeanene, who passed away a few years ago.  Then he defines revelation and inspiration.  Revelation his crisp and clear and essential.  Inspiration are a series of promptings to some worthy objective.

Elder Scott cites three examples of revelation: 1. Pres Kimball's revelation that all worthy males should receive the Priesthood.  2. Pres. Joseph F. Smith's revelation around our association with the other side of the veil.  3. His own revelation to marry Jeanene.

Then there are many points to consider about how to receive revelation, some direct actions about praying and fasting to find and understand scripture.  Then also points about what types of behavior invite or repel the spirit and thus allow or disallow the receipt of revelation or inspiration.

One I need to pay particular attention to his this idea that anger or hurt or defensiveness drive awa the spirit.

With proper care of the revelation received and the determination to act upon it, Elder Scott assures us that we will have 'divine power' provided to accomplish the task.  This divine power is referenced 3 times.

Elder Scott teaches another principle around which I feel we have less confidence.  Receiving revelation through dreams.  He teaches the importance of being prepared to capture what is taught so that the Lord can trust us with more information.  When we record what is taught we show we value what is being shared.
