Vs. 1 says that Sariah was so glad for the safe return of her sons. She had thought that they had 'perished in the wilderness'. She was worried about them dying along the three days journey between Jerusalem and their camp. It struck me only this morning that she thought that was the most perilous part of their journey.
She then complains against Lehi for being a visionary man, and that they would perish in the wilderness for it. Lehi corrects her and says, I know the goodness of God. Not only are we not going to die in the wilderness, WE WOULD HAVE, or at least he would have, if we didn't leave Jerusalem.
In verse 5 he goes on to say that he knows the Lord will deliver his sons out of Laban's hands. He KNOWS that Laban is actually the most dangerous aspect of their mission. What trust he has in the Lord, he trusts in the visions and dreams given him of God.
How is it that we trust more in our own understanding than in Gods? Why do we not seek more of God's understanding? Pray, study, ponder, just like Nephi and Lehi -- it will and does already come.
