1 Nephi 4:14 "land"

The land they were promised would be called a land of promise.  The Nephites were told that if they kept the commandments they would prosper in the land.  In Jacob 2:12 it is explained further that as a land of promise it was full of precious commodities -- Gold, Silver, and precious ores were in abundance.  Nephi in 2 Nephi 5 explains that they lived after the manner of happiness in that they worked the land, and flocks and herds, and they knew how to work with the commodities of the land to produce fine buildings, tools, and even weapons.  They used everything in moderation.  The Lamanites wanted the quick fix and focused their attention only on hunting for their food.  This caused them to be more idle.
