President Packer spoke to the topic of our positions in the church and the value of all regardless of how small the contribution seems. His talk was called The Weak and the Simple of the Church. I have always respected Pres. Packer, but never felt much affection for him like I have some of the others. I met Pres. Packer when they were showing the paintings that were going to go in the Nauvoo temple. They were being displayed in the LDS studios off of 2230 North before taking most of the Quorum of the 12 and First Presidency to the Museum of Art for the unveiling of the Karl Bloch painting, "Waters of Bethesda". I went up to President Packer and mentioned that I knew his grandson that he was a good member of our Elders Quorum. I don't think he said two words to me, and I was quite disappointed. I probably seemed obsequious, I merely wanted to have interaction with him to know him better. His wife was very kind.
This article does give us insight into his heart. I trust his love and kindness are there and apparent to those who know him. This article reminds me that though my callings are not recognized as crucial to the ward organization, they can be of influence to the well being of my fellow saints. I want to work harder at them.
