President Hinckley spoke 4 times during conference. To help me remember what he spoke about I thought I would jot down a few notes.
Sat. Morning: President Hinckley acknowledges the absence of President Faust. He called Elder Eyring to be the Second counselor in the presidency and Elder Cook to fill the vacancy in the quorum of the 12. He also sustained the other general authorities.
Priesthood: President Hinckley's talk was addressed Slow to Anger. He provided several good stories about those who did control anger and those who didn't. He used the hymn "School thy feelings". There was a story about a man who agreed with his wife that if they quarreled one would leave the house. There was another about why we shouldn't take offense to things written in the paper, and another about a man who let his anger over a false accusation destroy him. We are counseled to keep a smile on our faces.
Sunday Morning: "The Stone cut out of the Mountain" This was a great sermon that discussed many of the great principles of the restoration and strengthened my testimony of the Priesthood, Joseph Smith, and the Book of Mormon.
Sunday Afternoon: In his closing remarks he reminds us that the talks that have been given were prepared for us under the influence of much prayer. He asks us to use them in our family home evening lessons. He bids us farewell until the next conference but reminds us that he is 97 and is not sure how long he will be around.
I trust President Hinckley. I know he receives guidance and counsel from God. He is the man called to lead this church at this time. He is in this position because God could trust him with the various roles and responsibilities that were assigned to him throughout his life and that culminated in this presidential position. I love him and will miss him dearly when he passes. We haven't had a prophet this influential in some time. I supposed President Kimball was the last president to have the time and ability to influence the saints this much. I do pray that he lives to be 100 years old. This small thing will be celebrated by all of the saints and lead to much public interest. The exposure will be good for the growth of the church. I would like to see it happen, so I pray for it often.
