2 Chronicles 10 - 11

Solomon has died and his son is taking over the kingdom. This is a sad story of peer pressure. Rehoboam decides to listen to his friends instead of King Solomon's advisers and taxes the people even more than his father. What an idiot. It's not like he was hurting for money. The sad part is that this is where he loses Israel, the half of the kingdom that is not Judah and Benjamin (centered in Jerusalem). He could have continued to lead the greatest nation on earth and gave it up to follow his stupid friend's counsel.
