Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 39

 Jonah 1:17 Now the Lod had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

It doesn't matter whether this really happened or not, it's what it represents. The fish represents the death of Jesus Christ and the resurrection is represented when Jonah is spit back out.

Colossians 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

Jesus died to save us and allow us to be presented back to the Father.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 38

 D&C 45:4 Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified;

Jesus is selfless, He gives all for Father and for us. Blessed be the name of my God!

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 37

 D&C 20:23 He was crucified, died, and rose again the third day;

Pretty simple and straight forward. The crucifixion did not kill Jesus; He gave up His own life when His work was complete. It is a powerful miracle that is difficult for us mortals to see, but we know it was there. We know it in part because He rose again on the third day. He had power to lay down His life and power to take it up again. We know this more because it has been explained by prophets, seers, and revelators. Those who have sought to know and understand this, the greatest of moments in all existence, have learned through revelation more of the details of what we need to know and understand to better appreciate the power of Jesus and the power of His great works.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 36

 D&C 18:11 For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him.

In the scriptures the prophets give different names to God - the Son. In this case Redeemer. Why do not previous prophets more frequently refer to Jesus as the Redeemer? Do we do that in our dispensation more than previous dispensations?

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 35

 Mormon 9:13 And because of the redemption of man, which came by Jesus Christ, they are brought back into the presence of the Lord: yea, this is wherein all men are redeemed, because the death of Christ bringeth to pass the resurrection, which bringeth to pass a redemption from an endless sleep, from which sleep all men shall be awakened by the power of God when the trump shall sound; and they shall come forth, both small and great, and all shall stand before his bar, being redeemed and loosed from this eternal band of death, which death is a temporal death.

These verses are all about the death of Jesus Christ, but the real point is that that death was necessary for our salvation. What gratitude we should feel for this!

Moroni 9:25 My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.

In the Living Christ the verse is quoted that "...I am He who liveth, I am He who was slain..." The order of this is important. Jesus lives now but was slain before. He came back from the dead, and was the first to do so.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 34

 3 Nephi 11:2 And they were also conversing about this Jesus Christ, of whom the sign had been given concerning his death.

What if you hadn't seen His death, but you knew of signs that were supposed to mark His death. Would that be enough to convince you that it had happened. Maybe it doesn't matter, maybe it is still a better question to ask if I believe based on the relationship I have built with God independent of any other sign. How desperate we are to build and maintain our relationship with God daily, through pouring out our souls unto God and hearing His responses; through studying His word to learn how He has interacted with those who have come before us; through making and keeping covenants.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 33

 3 Nephi 9:22 Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God. Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved.

In repenting and coming unto the Lord, how does one approach as a little child? What it is that allows a child to approach in the best manner, the appropriate manner, the preferred manner? I've heard this throughout my life, but I'm not sure I have ever understood? It stands out to me also that a child is the example we are to follow in coming unto Christ, and yet little children don't fully understand the ideas associated with the death and resurrection of Christ.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 32

 3 Nephi 6:20 And there began to be men inspired from heaven and sent forth, standing among the people in all the land, preaching and testifying boldly of the sins and iniquities of the people, and testifying unto them concerning the redemption which the Lord would make for his people, or in other words, the resurrection of Christ; and they did testify boldly of his death and sufferings.

This was right before Jesus atoning sacrifice, I think it might have been while he was already living in Jerusalem, but even if it was just before that, it is a powerful witness that would have only come through revelation, powerful revelation.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 31

 Helaman 14:14 And behold, again, another sign I give unto you, yea, a sign of his death.

Not a lot of meat here but there were signs that followed the Lord's death.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 30

 Alma 22:14 And since man had fallen he could not merit anything of himself; but the sufferings and the death of Christ atone for their sins, through faith and repentance, and so forth; and that he breaketh the bands of death, that the grave shall have no victory, and that the sting of death should be swallowed up in the hopes of glory; and Aaron did expound all these things unto the king.

We are dependent on Jesus Christ, we cannot accomplish our own salvation. The pain of death and separation are overcome in hope of glory brought through Jesus' power over death and sin.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 29

 Alma 16:19 Holding forth things which must shortly come; yea, holding forth the coming of the Son of God, his sufferings and death, and also the resurrection of the dead.

Holding forth" - I assume that this means presenting the truth of God's sufferings and death so that others who are not aware can see and understand. It is an important responsibility of any believer

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 28

 Alma 11:42 Now, there is a death which is called a temporal death; and the death of Christ shall loose the bands of this temporal death, that all shall be raised from this temporal death.

Why does this verse focus on the death of Christ as the key to unlock the resurrection or our being raised from temporal death?

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 27

 Alma 7:12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

Because Jesus experienced life in much the same way the rest of us do with a physical body, and because He lived among man, He knows what it all feels like. He can offer comfort and healing as no one else can or could. Praise Him for those gifts. I also recognize that while on earth, in a mortal body, He also knew and could understand the thoughts and feelings of those around Him by the "wisdom of God". I love Him for this, and trust that it gave Him deeper understanding of everyone because of it. And then He experienced the suffering in Gethsemane and on the Cross. He knows of our pain and suffering.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 26

 Mosiah 18:2 Yeah, concerning that which was to come, and also concerning the resurrection of the dead, and the redemption of the people, which was to be brought to pass through the power, and sufferings, and death of Christ, and his resurrection and ascension into heaven.

"the power" is that of Jesus to use His agency and authority given by God the Father, to lay down His life. I'm sure it can and does mean other things as well, but that was the impression when I first read it. His sufferings, death, and subsequent resurrection and ascension into heaven were by His power and the grace of our loving Father in Heaven.

Alma 21:9 Now Aaron began to open the scriptures unto them concerning the coming of Christ, and also concerning the resurrection of the dead and that there could be no redemption for mankind save it were through the death and sufferings of Christ, and the atonement of his blood.

The death, sufferings, and atonement of Jesus Christ were by the power given Him by His Father and the use of His own agency to do the will of Father.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 25

 Mosiah 16:8 But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.

We do not need to fear death; what comes after will be peaceful and joyful and hopeful, all because Jesus Christ already died, holds the keys of resurrection, and offers us that resurrection, salvation, and even exaltation!

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 24

Mosiah 15:7 Yea, even so he shall be led, crucified, and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father.

Everything Jesus did was completely the will of the Father. What if one could learn to do this? How blessed and content would life be. I am grateful for the influence of God in my life and the decisions I make, and especially for His forgiveness when the decisions I make do not align. I pray for grace to do better.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 23

 2 Nephi 26:3 And after the Messiah shall come there shall be signs given unto my people of his birth, and also of his death and resurrection; and great and terrible shall that day be unto the wicked, for they shall perish;

There have been great signs to follow all of the works of our God, our Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. At the creation of the world a beautiful world existed as a reminder of His love for us. At His birth were signs and wonders, like the star! At His death, darkness and destruction. And how many signs will there yet be at His Second Coming!

Jesus' Comings to earth are marked by his permanence on the earth after arriving.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 22

 2 Nephi 25:14 And behold it shall come to pass that after the Messiah hath risen from the dead, and hath manifested himself unto his people, unto as many as will believe on his name, behold, Jerusalem shall be destroyed again; for wo unto them that fight against God and the people of his church.

This prophesy comes many hundred years before it would happen, and it did happen. How wonderful to know that prophets truly can be shown the important events of the future that have meaning for the salvation of the souls of men.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 21

 2 Nephi 9:5 Yea, I know that ye know that in the body he shall show himself unto those at Jerusalem, from whence we came: for it is expedient that it should be among them; for it behooveth the great Creator that he suffereth himself to become subject unto man in the flesh, and die for all men, that all men might become subject unto him.

Jesus became subject unto man, He became mortal, took upon Himself flesh, allowed Himself to be placed in our cultural situations - everyday life. These steps were all necessary in order for Him to be able to take upon Him our sins. I'm grateful for this.

Jesus Christ --> Death - Day 19

 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

The suffering of Jesus Christ (the Just) allows Him to make way for Him to bring us (the unjust) to God the Father.

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

I love this verse, a declaration of power from the God who accomplished the greatest work of all time.

The order of the statements is important, Just like in D&C 110 - I am he that liveth, this is the statement he makes after having been slain dead. And again He says, "I am alive for evermore".

He holds the keys of death and hell, He governs all of that. By which He can administer relief through forgiveness to those suffering. His ordinances free the living and the dead from everlasting subjection to death and hell. Praise be to our God!
