D&C 124:2 Your prayers are acceptable before me; and in answer to them I say unto you, that you are now called immediately to make a solemn proclamation of my gospel, and of this stake which I have planted to be a cornerstone of Zion, which shall be polished with the refinement which is after the similitude of a palace.
The stake is the cornerstone? The structure of the church is to fill some of the roles of Jesus Christ who is the true and complete cornerstone? Just some ideas, that maybe the stake in this case is an extension of Christ.
D&C 124:23 And it shall be for a house for boarding, a house that strangers may come from afar to lodge therein; therefore let it be a good house, worthy of all acceptation, that the weary traveler may find health and safety while he shall contemplate the word of the Lord; and the cornerstone I have appointed for Zion.
This house of boarding is a place to allow people to reflect on Christ the Lord and He as the cornerstone.
D&C 124:131 And again, I say unto you, I give unto you a high council, for the cornerstone of Zion--
Here again I think the high council is an extension of The True Cornerstone in purpose.
Moses7:53 And the Lord said: Blessed is he through whose seed Messiah Shall come; for he saith--I am Rock of Heaven, which is broad as eternity; whoso cometh in at the gate and climbeth up by me shall never fall; wherefore, blessed are they of whom I have spoken, for they shall come forth with songs of everlasting joy.
This verse in Moses gives us another name for Christ...Rock of Heaven, instead of cornerstone, but similar in meaning. I like the idea that as a Rock, Cornerstone, or Foundation, He is as broad as Heaven.
Isaiah 8:14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and a for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem
More ways to view Christ and His role. Rock of Offence - has such a negative connotation but I think means that those who are not righteous will take Him and His counsel with offence.
1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ
We base all on Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
