Day 267 Today's reading: Helaman 9:1-17 // PoGP - JSH

Question of the day: Some prophecies, like Nephi’s in this chapter, are difficult to believe. How have you gained your testimony in President Monson and his teachings?

I suppose in some ways my testimony is not so specific in President Monson as it is in modern day prophets. But I know in the solemn assemblies I have felt the Spirit confirm that President Monson or President Hinckley were our prophets. Following on from that I pay particular attention to their messages and try to remember what they have spoken on. Another way that my testimony of our living prophet is strengthened is through my understanding that they hold all of the keys. I have prayed, as Pres. Eyring has encouraged, in gratitude for a prophet who holds all of the keys to minister to men on Earth.

I thought of one more way my testimony is strengthened specifically of Pres. Monson. In my last ward I was aware of a family that had a son who was very ill. They were always up at primary children's hospital and this family was frequently visited by Pres. Monson. When I think of how great it is that we have a prophet that loves and cares for others and goes about ministering to them just as Jesus would that strengthens my belief that he is the Prophet of God on Earth today.

PoGP - JSH - 1:14 - 24
This passage covered the first vision. I really enjoyed reading this and felt my testimony strengthened by it. One question I had was what caused Nephi to decide to pray vocally? James 1:5 doesn't necessarily say anything about praying vocally. But it seems it was important. I was reminded of what I just read in The Book of Mormon, that Nephi prayed aloud on top of his tower. And people heard him. Is that what was important, did others need to hear him praying? When I pray aloud I'm specifically looking for a place I won't be heard, just like Joseph.
