2014-04-05 Saturday Afternoon Conference

Conducting: Pres. Eyring
Music: Orem Institute Choir

Elder Nelson: Hold close to faith in Jesus Christ.  It is the only sure foundation.  When asked to separate his medical practice from his faith, he couldn't and wouldn't because he knew the source of all truth. Large numbers of people can be wrong. Dead wrong.

Elder Scott: Motivated to serve a mission because of something Jeanine when they met early on.  You will get more from life if you focus on the basic principles of the gospel.  His family joined and was strong later. Importance of learning doctrine in helping others to hear true principles.  Thinking about teaching in our quorum as well as the related points in our Gospel Doctrine classes.

(C&C) We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet

Elder Hales: Disobedience comes when we love satan more than Christ.  Loving Christ will always lead to obedience. [me] If being in His presence requires obedience wouldn't we want to pursue that?

Elder Claudio Zivic: Hold fast to the truths you know.  Leaving the truths we know there will be bitterness.  [me] it feels like, by the talks we have heard so far today, that there is a concern of people neglecting their testimonies and leaving the church.

Elder Craig W. Zwick: 18 wheeler, with wife and child, smoke in the cab, before stopped they jumped out. He reprimanded her for jumping out. I was only trying to save our son. 'no corrupt communication'  Angry communication is corrupt. words firm in information can be soft in spirit.  Careful listening with empath can change 'corrupt communication' to 'ministering grace'.  Compassionate language comes with help of Holy Ghost.

Elder Cook: Our Father's plan is about families.  Malachi they shall be burned as stubble leaving neither root nor branch.  I will send Elijah the prophet turning hearts to fathers to children. Elijah was the last priesthood holder to have the sealing power of the priesthood before the Savior came.  Then he restored it to Joseph Smith at Kirtland.  He talks about family history work again.  It has been mentioned at least two other times earlier today.  Family History work is about keeping families together and it should be a principle in which we rejoice. This IS a facet of 'hastening the work'.  85% of the church now lives within 200 miles of the temple. Family History centers are now in our homes [me] how will I begin to gather names from my ancestors to go to the temple?  How can we make it easier to do this together as husband and wife. don't underestimate the help of deceased ancestors from the other side of the veil.
