So Nephi gets the plates from Laban's servant. I wonder if Nephi knew of Zoram prior to this meeting. Did Zoram have specific responsibilities for the records? Was that a sole responsibility? Maybe Zoram and Nephi knew each other through church.
After killing Laban he went towards Laban's treasury and he saw the servant that had the keys, Zoram. So Nephi must have already known who Zoram was. Maybe he saw Zoram leaving the treasury and commanded him to turn around and get the plates.
I am noticing that it was dark, but that his disguise was quite complete. I'm sure that there was no mistaking Laban's sword and probably armor for that matter. However, I believe he had on Laban's helmet so as to keep his face further in the shadows. It was then a matter of his voice. Zoram heard Laban's voice ask for the plates, and he was convinced that he was doing the right thing.
When the reached the outside walls, it was again Nephi's voice that called to his fleeing brethren, and when they heard it they knew it was Nephi and stopped. It was also at this time that Zoram figured out things weren't exactly what he thought they were. Nephi in his strength seizes Zoram.
The Lord can give great strength to us if we trust in Him. Nephi always trusted in God. The cross reference takes us to the topical guide. The favorite cross-reference I found though, was for a different kind of strength. D&C 108:7 talks about being converted and then strengthening our brethren. Nephi's strength was not just to hold Zoram from escaping but to teach him that there was a better way of life. One that he deserved because of his righteousness. He would be a free man, no longer a servant. Nephi was converted, followed his father the prophet, and was going to lead not only Zoram to this righteous branch but also Ishmael. He was converted and strengthening his brethren.
