The 1st Pres. Message for Sept 2011 is about preparing for Conference. Pres. Uchtdorf shares a story about how a person told a non-member neighbor about how they hear from Prophets and Apostles semi-annually that speak for God. This piqued the interest of the neighbor and they asked, "What did they say?". The member was stumped and embarrassed.
I am frequently reminded of the value of the words of the prophets and apostles and wish that I knew them better.
Today I listened to Pres. Monson's opening address. Here are some thoughts:
1. He told us of temple work that was proceeding around the world and announced three new temples.
2. He spoke of the service rendered in Japan.
3. He reported on the number of missionaries serving in 340 missions around the world. He reminded us that Missionary work is the lifeblood of the church.
A. He asked us to make a contribution to the missionary fund.
B. He asked us to continue to do temple work for ourselves and for our dead.
