Isaiah 5 - 2 Nephi 15

The vineyard is the Lords chosen people, the people with whom he has made covenant, the house of Israel.  Early in this chapter we hear the Isaiah tell us that the Lord prepared His vineyard by removing the rocks. It does create for us an image of great effort to prepare a special place for His people.  And sometimes he cares for his people by finding a place that is difficult to live in, where He can show forth his strength and power to bless by having His people in a place unlikely for them to succeed (at least on their own).  But He painstakingly prepares that plot for His people to grow.

In a subsequent verse He says that he will tear down the hedges and remove the fencing because the fruit is all wild and not good.  Israel was disobedient and wicked.  Removing the hedges causes the grape plant to mix with other weeds, thistles and briars.  Removing the fencing allows for people to walk through and trample the grape plant.  This is the scattering of Israel and it has happened.

With loving reassurance we read in later verses the strength with which the people of Israel will be gathered.  An ensign to the nations will be established and will hiss to them and they will come speedily. The gathering of Israel will happen quickly.  In many ways I believe we are seeing preparation for this even now.  In current events many of the countries in the middle east are in civil unrest as one country follows another, rejecting their Kings, and seeking democracy, leaders chosen by the people.

What a great preparation for the gathering of Israel as more and more people are able to live in greater freedom. I know my God is over all, He is mighty to save, to lead His people and all those that will be humble and follow Him.
