Lesson 2 - "Behold, I Am Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World"

I read the lesson for Sunday School last night.  I wasn't as excited about it because it wasn't focused on specific sections.  All of my preparation last week was based on the Introduction to the Doctrine and Covenants as well as the first Section.  It was easier to find details on those subjects.  The lesson this week has us focused on passages of scripture that are related to the Roles and Attributes of the Savior.  I very much enjoyed reading the scriptures and marking them in my set, but felt like I didn't know how to study by topic in the reference materials I used last week.  I still don't, but I think I will do my best to stay focused on those verses and come to know them better.  I will also continue reading books and references related to last weeks lesson.  I want to finish "The Great Apostacy" and read "Lectures on Faith".  I also feel motivated to read more of the Introduction and preface to History of the Church.  As I'm writing this I think I need to spend some time checking out the Appendix articles of the D&C Institute manual.  I might also start looking at next weeks lesson.

1. D&C 19:16-19 - Jesus must love us and I know that he loves his father.  I believe he understands more than any other child of God the Plan of Salvation and the fact that we NEED a Savior.  He suffered that we would not have to suffer if we would repent. We get the easy job (which isn't always that easy).
1. a. Jesus understands the worth of souls to God and did what he did that we would return to God through repentance.  Jesus does the will of the Father, always, and perfectly. This is God's plan.  Jesus understands it and fulfills it accordingly.  D&C 34:3 reiterates the fact that Jesus loves each child of God.  It is such a simple statement but it really means more than I can comprehend. I have a hard enough time loving those around it me it amazes me that he can love all of Gods children.  Think of the billions of children that have lived on this planet, and there are other planets.
2. D&C 88:14-18 The body and the spirit are the "soul" of man. The Savior's atonement makes possible the resurrection or salvation of the soul. D&C 93:33 The resurrection allows the Spirit and the body (the body is made from the elements) to be made inseparable.  Once inseparable the soul can have a fullness of joy.  Alma 11: 42-44 Temporal death is imposed upon all man because of the fall.  Christ's resurrection frees us from the bands of death.  As part of the resurrection we shall all be put back together, perfectly.  It will then be time to be judged.  We will know even as we know now AND we will have a bright recollection of all of our guilt.  If we repent, there should be no guilt, so I assume that the guilt we will feel guilt for those sins of which we have not repented.
3. D&C 18:11-12 The Saviors atonement allows us to come unto him -- the source of all blessings. D&C 19:16-17, 20 We are blessed to not feel all the pain Jesus felt in the atonement by repenting.  This pain was so intense it caused him to bleed from every pore. D&C 58:42 We are blessed to receive forgiveness if we repent, or confess and forsake our sins. D&C 76:62-70 This passage describes the many blessings of those that receive the Celestial glory.  This glory is only possible through the atonement of Christ and by our willing submission to the plan, and as already state many times, repentance.
